Vietnam Week Three: Hạ Long Bay 2016
A surreal and beautiful expedition through Ha Long Bay, a growing tourist city under heavy construction with extensive history, and the home to one of the Seven Wonders of Nature. The city of Ha Long Bay is lined for miles by monumental hotels and restaurants with most under construction, aside from the small suburbs of locals the city was deserted at the time of year we were there - in fact, we were the only people in two of the hotels we stayed in, which was spooky at times. Ha Long Bay’s world recognised limestone karsts and isles (all 1,969 of them) were magnificent, we cruised around them in a traditional “junk” boat and saw the more well-known picturesque isles before jumping in a kayak and exploring others and their huge caves. We moored up to one of them home to ‘Dragon Cave’ or originally named ‘Monkey Cave’ and trekked through the massive cavern before heading back to the bay and off to our next adventure in Hanoi.
